Onkyo in general seems to have a good reputation when it comes to receivers. I've tried all the ideas I've read, but to no avail. So, bottom line, do better research than I did. Then one day, no picture from the PS3 or Blu-ray player.
I had 3 devices connected to it via HDMI. Have tried to contact ONKYO, but no response. So I bought this receiver and was initially happy with the performance.
Today, I haven't been able to resolve why there is no picture. Then one morning, I turned on the tv to watch, and no picture. If I'd wait 30 minutes, the picture would finally come in.
I researched this issue via the internet, and what do you know, numerous folks have already posted this on various sites asking for help. If you're using for 1080p components, then do some Googling before buying.
It does run hot like everyone says. Does everything it says it does. I've had mine for just over 9 months, its been sent for repair once already and yesterday the sound stopped on one of the HDMI channels and now HDMI switching has gone all together. Sounds great. With 4 HDMI inputs at the price point was in a price point of its own. The money I saved on not buying a more expensive Denon has gone on shipping costs to send it for repair. Sadly, browsing the internet, this seems an all too common problem.
I will not buy Onkyo again. Please take our advice and spend money on a better product. Service is as mentioned in a previous review, "backed up", and I'm not willing to be without it for a couple of months, at cost to me.
Literally 30-40 tries, its ridiculous. It appears that many other people on here are suffering this same problem.
I bought my SR 606 last year for Christmas, about 1 year and 10 days later, it won't switch to different inputs without constantly cycling it on and off. The receiver does run very hot, enough to burn your hand, which seems like an oversight in production.
The receiver itself is a good unit, although the very long delay between switching inputs made it difficult to set up initially. The sound is excellent and its full of features, it does everything I need it to do, except work when I want it to.
I'll be upgrading to a different unit soon.
I believe that this was a top pick of Home Theater Mag, when they were reviewing it. So what more could I ask for. I can't complain. If I had more money I might have spent more money. More money, a bigger house a theater room bigger badder speakers, thats what we all want right. Still dreaming.
I purchased this in August, 2008. I then ran the PS3 through the "VCR" port and it worked fine. Now I can't get a signal from either of them unless I skip the receiver completely and run them straight to the TV. Until recently.Everything runs through the HDMI ports. My warranty should still be valid, so I'm going to try to get it repaired/replaced by Onkyo. I started getting random issues where it wasn't getting a signal from my PS3 that was running through the "Game" port. The only complaint I could offer about it is that it runs a little hot, but not a big deal. SO for about two weeks I just switched the HDMI cable from the back of the PS3/Xbox and ran them both through the "VCR" port.
I also have an Xbox running to the "VCR" port that was not having any issues. Thinking the issue was with the PS3 or the HDMI cable, I switched cables, and still got no results. Not the ideal surround sound set-up. Wish me luck.
